ADP Chair - Beach Jim Cooke, 2nd Year Playing experience (Beach): In 2005, I played at the world Masters in Edmonton with John May and won a silver medal. I played competitively on the beach in the 1990's until a knee injury ended my playing. Andrew Kohl and I won the Norceca Beach Championships in Puerto Rico in 1992. Coaching Certification: I am a certified Level 3 Beach coach and learning facilitator and a Level 3 Indoor coach in progress. Favorite thing about Beach volleyball: The sport challenges you physically and mentally. You are involved in every rally and there is no where to hide when the pressure is on. You have to face your challenges. Favorite volleyball skill: Tracking down an opponents roll shot! Favorite Beach in the world: I have been to a number of beaches around the world, but my favorite beach is Balmy Beach in Toronto because I have so many fond memories playing the game in the old days. Volleyball Accomplishments: I was very fortunate to work with Canada's best preparing for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney where I was the head coach for our men's team. One piece of advice to youth Beach athletes: The successful and effective athletes that I have worked with have always chosen to work through uncomfortableness and their weaknesses, rather than trying to avoid them. |
